Wireless Mesh Networks
Tech Hive recently did a general review of Wireless Mesh Networks. Mesh networking is a common technology among Z-Wave and Zigbee wireless standards used by Internet of Things (IoT) devices to create low power wireless networks over a large area. This same technique is gaining popularity in consumer level WiFi hardware to provide continuous WiFi coverage in large homes that often had dead spots with a single WiFi router.
The general principles of wireless mesh networks apply to WiFi, Z-wave, and Zigbee mesh networks. Only wired IoT devices with an external power supply function as repeating nodes strengthening the mesh network. This serves to conserve power in battery powered IoT devices.
